Parent Guide to Online Safety
Children enjoy spending time using their devices online. Higher screen time, however, puts children at risk of being bullied or abused, seeing inappropriate content, and not getting enough sleep and exercise.
Parents may underestimate how often their children come across potentially harmful and inappropriate material on the internet and may be unsure about how to respond. Some of the risks could be:
• unwanted contact
• grooming
• cyber bullying including sexting - where a disclosure of cyberbullying is made, schools now have a duty to investigate and protect, even where the bullying originates outside the school.
• digital footprint
• accessing and generating inappropriate content
